One of the reasons I am interested is because it supports Blu-ray and avchd video files. I also look forward to seeing how it works with netbooks, but that's a project for the future at the moment.
I downloaded the DVD iso and burned with no problem. I used Firefox to d/l and burned on my ubuntu 8.04 workstation. It went smooth.
The instructions say you need a PC with these system requirements:
- 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
- 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
- DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
The desktop is pretty. I have not done a lot with it yet, but look forward to getting some hands on once my copy is more stable.
Now to install more memory. :-)

I copied some video files (*.m2ts) to the media center, made the stream visible to the local network and was able to view the video on our Sony PS3. I then copied the video files with the media center over to the PS3, saved them to a USB drive and moved them to another computer (XP).
ReplyDeleteI have not been able to upload .m2ts to YouTube recently but was able to upload the files Windows 7 converted to .mpg. :-D
The install did not go as smooth as a linux install nowdays. The big 'problem' I had was it hung the first time (I did not have a network cable plugged in) and I found it easier to reload by installing ubuntu then installing Windows 7 again to get it to format the disk correctly.
